The main purpose of the present study was to investigate validation and psychometric properties of the Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale (BFNES, Leary, 1983) in the sample of Iranian adolescents. 500 Adolescents (276 female, 224 male) was selected through multi-stage sampling method. The MANOVA indicated a main effect of gender and age groups for the scores of the two FNE-B subscales. Because there were gender and age differences for the FNE-B subscale and" total score, normative comparisons was reported separately for male and female and the age groups. The results based on item analysis (item-total correlation & difficulty degree) showed that there was a high correlation between all of items and its own subscales. Internal consistency coefficients for total score and each of subscales of positive scored factor and reverse scored factor were 0.80, 0.82 and 0.81, and test retest reliability coefficients, over a 2-weeks period, ranged from 0.77 to 0.79 for the subscales and total score. Results of exploratory factor analysis replicated the two-factor structure of the FNE-B in the Iranian sample: positive scored factor and reverse scored factor. Goodness-of-fit indices of confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the 2 extracted factors. The significant correlation between the subscales and FNE-B total score with subscales and QIDA: LSSP and SASA total scores confirmed the convergent validity of the FNE-B.
