The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of personality dysfunctions and abnormal personality traits in predicting generalized anxiety symptoms. The research method was correlation. The statistical population was all students of Azarbaijan Shahid Madani University in the academic year of 2023-2024, and 400 students were selected by multistage cluster random sampling method. The participants responded to the questionnaires of Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Abnormal Personality Dimensions, Personality Problems Severity Index and Personality Malfunction. Data analysis was done with Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. The data analysis showed the existence of a positive and significant relationship between personality dysfunctions and abnormal personality traits with generalized anxiety symptoms, also negative affectivity and psychoticism are abnormal dimensions of personality; Identity integration, self-control and social adaptation of the severity of personality problems and empathy, caring for others, helpfulness and self-directedness of personality dysfunction had a significant role in predicting generalized anxiety symptoms.According to the results, it is suggested that by understanding the underlying mechanisms that link personality dysfunctions and generalized anxiety, mental health professionals can develop more effective strategies to meet the needs of individuals with generalized anxiety symptoms.
