Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of forgiveness therapy on distress tolerance and perceived stress of mothers with visually impaired children. The current research was conducted with a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test, post-test design with a control group. The total number of the statistical population was 90 people, 20 of the mothers were selected by convenience sampling method from schools for the blind in Isfahan city and were randomly replaced in a control group and an experimental group of 10 people. The experimental group participated in the forgiveness therapy program during 12 sessions of 60 minutes once a week, while the control group did not participate in this program. Data collection tools include the Perceived Stress Scale of Cohen, et al. and Distress Tolerance Scale of Simons & Gaher. Data were analyzed by univariate analysis of covariance. The findings showed that there was a significant difference in the distress tolerance and perceived stress of the experimental and control groups in the post-test stage. Forgiveness therapy had a positive and significant effect on perceived stress and distress tolerance of participants. Based on this research, it is suggested that psychologists use forgiveness therapy as an effective intervention to improve the distress tolerance and perceived stress of parents with visually impaired children.
