Comparing the Effectiveness of Cognitive-behavioral therapy and transcranial Direct Electrical Stimulation on Emotional Information Processing in People with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Abstract

The research was conducted with the aimed at comparing the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy and transcranial direct electrical stimulation on the rumination of people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. The research method was a semi-experimental design of pre-test, post-test and follow-up with a control group. The statistical population was people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, aged 20 to 45, who referred to psychological centers in Kish Island during 2024. The sample of 45 people was selected by the purposeful sampling method and divided into 3 groups (15 people in each group). The research tool was Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Questionnaires and the Rumination Response Style. The group who was subjected to cognitive-behavioral therapy intervention underwent 8 sessions treatments of 90 minutes and the group who was subjected with transcranial direct electrical stimulation was treated for 8 sessions of 40 minutes. The method of variance with repeated measures were applied to data. The results showed that cognitive-behavioral therapy reduced rumination more and increased cognitive flexibility more. It can be concluded that cognitive-behavioral therapy is more effective than transcranial direct electrical stimulation on the rumination of people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
