Abstract

The purpose of this research was to compare abnormal personality patterns and clinical symptoms of patients with psychiatric disorders and patients with a comorbid diagnosis of psychiatric disorders and substance use disorders. To do the research, a post-hoc-comparative approach was applied to 200 convenient samples, including 100 patients with psychiatric disorders and 100 ones with a comorbid diagnosis of psychiatric disorders and substance use disorder. The samples were chosen from patients admitted to psychiatric hospitals in Tehran, from April 2018 to March 2019. In order to collect the data, Demographic Information Questionnaire, Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory III. and Mental Status Examination based on DSM-V criteria were applied. The results which were analyzed by Multivariate Analysis of Variance showed a meaningful difference between the two groups in terms of abnormal personality patterns and Milon’s clinical symptoms. According to the findings, it is recommended that the difference in the abnormal personality patterns and clinical symptoms of the two groups be taken into consideration in the pharmacological and psychotherapy interventions of psychiatric disorders and comorbid disorders with substance use. Therefore, considering this dimension of disorders can lead to choosing a more comprehensive treatment approach.
