Abstract

This study was conducted to explore the efficacy of parental training with Adlerian approach on coping styles of mothers of children with oppositional defiant disorder. For doing this, between 86/3/15 to 86/4/15, 40 mothers who consulted the psychiatric ward (behavioral section) of Hamedan Bu Ali Sina Hospital which tended to participate in training program were assigned randomly into experimental and control groups.Experimental group was under a 10 session parental training program with Adlerian approach while control group received none.The research design was quasi-experimental one with pre and post test with control group.2 questionaires were used in this study for diagnosing oppositional defiant disorder in children and coping styles in mothers with Achenbach (1991) and Coping Style questionaire (1989).For analyzing the data independent t-test was used. The results Showed of the effectiveness of parental training with Adlerian approach on coping styles of mothers of children with ODD. Research hypotheses about changing the coping styles and reduction of ODD symptoms were confirmed with .95 confidence coefficient.
