Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to determine the relationships of narcissism, self-esteem and aggression among girls adolescence and their comparison in early, middle and late adolescence. The sample were 531 girls students (Junior high=171, high school=219 and pre-university=141 selected by clustering random sampling method. The age range was from 11 to 17 years old (Mean =12.23 years, SD = 1.52). They were evaluated by the aggression scale of Ahvaz (AAI), Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI) and Coppersmith self-esteem scale. Results showed significant positive correlation between self esteem with adaptive narcissism for adolescents and also significant positive correlation between maladaptive narcissism and aggression. The results also revealed that, there was a significant difference between self-esteem, narcissism and aggression of girls in three stages (first, middle and late) of adolescence. The present research concluded that for the aggressive adolescents, it may be more beneficial to target intervention efforts towards having accurate self-appraisals rather than promoting an already grandiose self-image (maladaptive narcissism).
