Effectiveness of cognitive – behavior therapy on sexual dysfunction in women

Abstract

Introduction and propose: Dissatisfaction with sexual life is very prevalent in women and Sexual dysfunction in a woman is often a consequence of her current psychosocial context. The propose of this project was to determine the effectiveness of cognitive behavior therapy on sexual dysfunction in women. Method: 20 women with sexual dysfunction disorder randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups. Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) during 8 weekly sessions used for experimental group and it focused on cognitive restructuring, modification of cognitive distortions and training of behavioral techniques. Golombok- Rust inventory of sexual state of marriage satisfaction was used as the pre-test and post- test for both two groups. Results: data analysis showed that the cognitive behavior therapy has significantly improved sexual dysfunction in experimental group rather than the control group. The mean scores of sexual dysfunction in experimental group was significantly lower than control group in post test in anorgasmia, avoidance, infrequency, non communication, non sensuality and dissatisfaction subscales. Conclusion: Cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) has a remarkable effectiveness and this method of therapy can be used as an effective intervention for women with sexual dysfunction.
