Introduction validation of the motivation research scale in graduate students

Abstract

Given the importance of research and research motivation in students, especially graduate students, measuring of research motivation is important for teachers and researchers in this important research area, The present study was conducted to validate the research motivation scale. The study population consisted of graduate students at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad and Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. From the above, a sample size of 280 graduate students were selected. To collect data used from the scale of research motivation and research self-efficacy that had been made by Salehi, Karsheki,Ahanhiyan & Karimi Moneghi (2011). To verify the reliability the internal consistency was used and for evaluating factor structure, factor analysis method was used. Content validity of the scale was established by professors and experts in research methods and psychology. Results of factor analysis showed that the factor structure of 3 of research motivation were confirmed.The results showed that research self-efficacy has a significant positive correlation with research intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, and has a negative relation with research amotivation. Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficients for the subscales of intrinsic motivation research, research intrinsic motivation and amotivation, respectively was 0.93, 0.86 and 0.76. These results indicated that the test has satisfactory reliability and validity. So the research motivation scale can be used to evaluate research motivations, interests and attitudes of students.
